Journey To Africa Dance Movement

Journey to Africa Live Dance Production will be held at the Dorothy Day Jemison Theatre in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday, August 10, 2024.  Our live dance performance is a culturally rich expression of African influences on culture portrayed artistically through dance from a contemporary modernist perspective.  The production features spoken word, live drumming, and a repertoire of nine dynamic, engaging, original choreographed dances from local and regional artists. Our cast consists of dancers from all different genres, skill levels, and ages starting at 5 years to adults.

Dance Levels is adamant about being the change we wish to see. J2A offers a unique platform that provides 3 months of dance training and conditioning that includes ballet, modern, contemporary & African dance styles, set/costume design education, African history lessons, and performance opportunities for youth and adult cast members.  With excellence in artistry, we provide a unique, culturally relevant, diverse platform for artists of all levels and varying ages to take the stage and empower them through education to express themselves creatively through dance. We place a fervent focus on reaching the underserved, underrepresented, and overlooked community of artists/dancers to provide them with a consistent, obtainable, sustainable, educational, & reflective platform to showcase greatness. J2A not only offers the artist an opportunity to dance but it offers opportunities to build lifelong relationships, build-self esteem, instill discipline, and sharpen skills.
